An Ode to New York

We are no longer in wonderful New York City.  I wanted to post some final photos of it until I blog about our new adventures in Lyon, France!  We are having the best summer and we have arrived in Lyon and I'm just getting settled into my internship.  Luckily the interns here have a lot of free time so I can do all sorts of blogging.
Our last week, we decided we had to go to a  Broadway musical, and we chose Billy Elliot.  It was the most incredible play I have ever seen!  It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.  A lot of times I get bored during musicals because it's confusing to me why everyone bursts into song.  But my attention was entirely captivated and the music was great!  Such a magical story, I laughed and cried many times.  It made us think of Cameron in Modern Family (All he wanted to do was dance, and that's my story!)
Nate took this photo of George Washington Bridge from our rooftop (with his brand new lens).
See how melancholy we were feeling to leave the city?  We would like to live here for quite a bit longer.

Party in the NYC

On our last trip to the Met we decided to go up to the roof to see the skyline.  Little did we know there was a singles party going on amidst a bamboo exhibit - aka lots of alcohol and people in their thirties.

The MoMA

Nate's ad agency gives their employees a free pass to get into a few museums and the Museum of Modern Art is one of them.  They are having an exhibition of Henri Cartier-Bresson's work there right now, who is probably my favorite photographer.  Below are two of his photos that I love.  He did a lot of work in France and New York (just like us).

I wasn't as excited about the rest of the museum because modern art has never really been my cup of tea. I've studied it a little so I understand why people do it, I just prefer the non-absurd.  However, there were a lot of really cool creative designs that I liked.

Katz's Deli

Katz's is a Jewish deli that is just another reason why we love New York so much.  Nate and I met after work and we shared a giant pastrami sandwich on rye that tasted incredible.  We are leaving for France on Friday and we will definitely miss the large amounts of delicious American food New York has to offer.  Only small gourmet portions starting on Saturday.

Skyler comes to visit

Our friend Skyler came to town Memorial Day weekend and he gave us a tour of some of his favorite places in the city.  He lived in NYC not too long ago doing an internship with UNICEF, so he knows what's what.  He introduced us to Chelsea, West Village, South Street Seaport, Battery Park and Hugh Jackman's sweet apartment by the river (who, by the way, I saw in the subway).  These are some photos of our journeyings.

The Brooklyn Bridge

On Friday night, Nathan and I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and took many photos.  Then we stood in line for an hour to have dinner at Grimaldi's Pizzeria in Brooklyn, and it was so worth it.  New York just gets more and more beautiful, and we love it here.

Happy Memorial Day!

A Picnic in Central Park

The more time I spend here the more I love it!  Superficially, as a place, New York is fabulous - everyone knows it, sings it (well I don't sing about it), and dreams about it, but the more time you spend here, the better it becomes.  For example:  the people.  Besides the strangers everywhere, we have only spent time with Mormons, and there is definitely a different crop here than there is in Provo.  Roughly guessing, half of our ward is (or was) involved in the arts - professional opera singers, actors, dancers, models, graphic designers, and architects.  And the other half is in grad school for more normal professions.  Therefore, our ward is full of characters which makes for very interesting church meetings.  Plus, everyone is either allergic to or avoiding gluten - it's the thing to do.

Last week on Thursday I packed dinner and met Nate downtown for a picnic in the park by the Bow Bridge.  It was lovely.

After Central Park we walked to the Rockefeller Center (not close at all by the way) and here are some photos of it that I like.  Such a cool art deco skyscraper!  Plus it's on the beginning credits of 30 Rock.
